Two sisters, Ritu and Shalu, opened a cozy 12-seat diner on the edge of Barrie — the second location of their father's beloved Country Kettle. It quickly became a local favourite, growing into two more units as the town itself blossomed.
From the very first year, we've been part of Barrie's story — sponsoring youth sports, supporting church fundraisers, and helping serve meals to those in need. Giving back became part of who we are.
After two decades of success, Ritu reimagined the diner for a new Barrie. From the bones of Country Kettle, Cottage Canoe was born — inspired by cottage-country charm, good food, and the feeling that everyone knows your name.
Our canoe-shaped bookshelf sparked a simple idea that became a beloved community ritual: "Take a book (or game), leave a book (or game)." It's now a little corner of connection that reflects the heart of Cottage Canoe.
Many of our team members have grown with us — from students working their first job to managers leading with heart. We've proudly watched them chase dreams, graduate, and even return with families of their own.
Three decades later, we've given our space a fresh look and our menu new life — blending tradition with inspiration from the lakes and cottages that surround us. Every detail, from our décor to our dishes, celebrates warmth, community, and togetherness — the essence of who we've always been.
